YouTube video stunt gone horribly wrong

Lately, people have been doing some very dangerous things for attention on social media. Just last week, we told you about the man who dangled a baby outside a 15-story window for Facebook likes. Luckily the child wasn’t hurt.

Unfortunately, that’s not the case with this incident that occurred in Minnesota this week. One man is dead and his pregnant girlfriend could be facing prison time.

According to the police report, Pedro Ruiz, 22, and Monalisa Perez, 19, wanted to make a YouTube video where Perez shoots a book that Ruiz is holding in front of his chest. Ruiz convinced Perez that the book would stop the bullet and he showed her another book that the stunt had previously worked on.

Perez told police that she used a 50 caliber gun and fired it from about a foot away from Ruiz. The book did not stop the bullet and Ruiz was shot in the chest. According to Fox 9, “Life-saving efforts were made and a medical helicopter was called, but 22-year-old Pedro Ruiz was pronounced dead at the scene.” Perez was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm.

Claudia Ruiz, the victim’s aunt, said that the couple wanted to become YouTube famous. They made other prank videos but their antics had escalated. She pleaded with him not to carry out the stunt but to no avail. The stunt was captured on two GoPro cameras and police confiscated them as evidence.

Claudia told Valley News Live that Perez is 7 months pregnant with their second child. It’s a boy and she plans to name him Pedro after his late father.
