For most of us, work emails are just a regular part of life. While most of us receive, send and sort through them at work, many people also have to dutifully check them when not officially on the clock.
For the most part, the emails are boring and a bit tedious, which is actually probably a good thing. They say no news is good news, and when it comes to unexpected electronic correspondence, surprises are rarely seen as a good thing.
An email sent by the Utah State Bar certainly came as a surprise to anyone who received it, though it was not the kind that led to extra work or any additional stress. At least, not for the people who received it.
A picture is worth a thousand words
The email arrived a little after 3 p.m. on Monday, with two images attached. The first seemed pretty innocuous, as it was an advertisement for the Bar’s 2018 Spring Convention, which was to be held in St. George, Utah. That image made sense.
The second one, however, did not, as it was a photo of a naked woman’s chest. Keep in mind, this email was sent to every one of the state’s active attorneys. Needless to say, the Utah State Bar quickly apologized for the mistake and said it would do what it could to figure out what happened.
Regardless of what happened, the damage had already been done. Many attorneys reacted to the email with a warning amidst their amusement.
Hey Utah Lawyers: DO NOT OPEN THE LATEST STATE BAR EMAIL AT WORK! VERY NSFW AND I CANT STOP LAUGHING

Others decided to make a joke about the situation.
The Utah State Bar accidentally sent porn to all the lawyers in the state today in an email blast. As if working against other lawyers all day didn't already make me feel dirty.

Apparently those of us with inactive Utah State Bar licenses don’t get the best emails, just the boring ones about proposed rule changes.

Ultimately, the state bar will try to figure out if someone from within the department put the photo there or, if not that, if they were hacked by some outside entity. The goal, according to them, is to ensure this kind of thing never happens again.
