I’ll never forget it. The date was Nov. 9, 1994 and I was sitting at my kitchen counter in front of an IBM computer.
The internet was still a relatively new concept for most people. That November day is special to me because it’s when I registered my very first domain: Komando.com. Those registrations were so cheap at the time, I’m pretty sure I only paid around $25 for it.
Fast forward to today, and this weekend marks the 25th anniversary of Komando.com. And I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than by launching a completely redesigned Komando.com experience. Are you ready for a sneak peek?
A lot has changed in 25 years
Think back to 1994. “Forrest Gump” would go on to win Tom Hanks a second Oscar in as many years, and Whitney Houston had the record of the year with “I Will Always Love You.” Bill Clinton was president, and that’s also the same year nearly 100 million people watched O.J. Simpson lead police on a slow-speed chase down a Los Angeles freeway.
A lot has happened over the course of a quarter-century. During that time, we’ve had our share of really good website designs and, well, some that weren’t so great. Check out the screenshot below as my website appeared in Oct. 1996, thanks to the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine.
It was pretty basic, but we made some progress as time went on. The screenshot below is from March of 2001.
Then things got colorful! Check out the site as it appeared in 2010.
Regardless of design, Komando.com has always been about tech. And here we are, 25 years later and still innovating as we prepare to launch the all-new site.
Different look, with the same advice you’ve come to trust
Behind the scenes over the past year, we’ve invested a small fortune and countless hours to bring you what I think is THE very best Komando.com ever. Here’s a sneak peek at what the homepage will look like in just a few days:
The site doesn’t just look better; we’ve made a lot of improvements under the hood, too. One big change is the site load time. No one likes to sit and wait for a webpage to open. It used to take forever, but the new Komando.com will load in just a few seconds — even faster than the industry standard.
The search function also works better than ever. You’ll be able to find what you’re looking for in a snap, really.
Then there are the ads. Look, I know you probably don’t like online advertising, but ads are the reason you get all our helpful tips, fun videos and trusted tech news for free. So we’re placing the ads in strategic places and, are you ready for this? You’ll now see less of them.
But the most important part of all is you’ll still get the same great tech advice from yours truly, in an easy-to-use site you’re going to love visiting on any device. I’ve even created a deals section for you filled with ways to save money, along with special offers you won’t have to hunt for.
The best is yet to come

And through a lot of hard work, we’ve created an amazing site. Mark your calendars! The all-new Komando.com debuts on Nov. 13 and I can’t wait to show it to you.
Now, I need a little help, so I’m going to ask you to do me a huge favor. Please tell at least 10 people about my new site and, while you’re at it, post a message on your social media account. We’ll keep track of who tags us and as a thank you, we’ll be giving some lucky folks great gifts.
While the times have changed, what will never change is my commitment to help you navigate the digital world. And that’s only going to get better.
