How long do you have to live? Take this Harvard quiz for people 65+

Would you want to know if you could find out when you’ll die? I know. It’s grim. While online quizzes aren’t exactly 100% accurate, results can be super interesting. Harvard now has a quiz you can take that predicts how long you have to live.

Read on for insight into your life expectancy.

How likely are you to die within the next four years?

Harvard’s Social Frailty Index is a 10-question quiz showing where you lie on a predicted mortality curve. If you’re under 45, we recommend using 45 as your age when you submit your answers, or the curve widget may not function properly.

You’ll notice a common theme if you take the quiz. This team understood the importance of family, social engagement, community and even fleeting relationships between strangers or acquaintances. It’s a refreshing take.

While many popular studies emphasize diet, lifestyle and self-destructive habits, this approach acknowledges the importance of the connections forming our lives’ foundations.

While your survey results may not be a sure thing (it was designed for adults over 65, and the algorithm is weighted accordingly), the spirit of this endeavor carries on. It’s never too early to start thinking about how to extend your life.

What causes some people to live longer than others?

Eight principles that may influence your longevity are at the heart of this project. After reviewing the results of a health and retirement study conducted by the University of Michigan, researchers found that the following factors were common amongst those who lived the shortest lives:

  • Living in poorly-maintained, unclean neighborhoods.
  • Poverty and low financial agency.
  • Seeing their children less than at least once a year.
  • Being unemployed.
  • Not being active with their children.
  • Never volunteering in their communities.
  • Feelings of loneliness or isolation.
  • Being treated rudely, unfairly and without respect.

Do any of these sound familiar? If so, you might want to consider strategies that this evidence shows lead to a more positive outcome. The road to a healthier lifestyle begins with one step in the right direction.
