eBay now competing with major retailers

Can you believe eBay has been around for over 20 years? It’s true. It was founded in 1995 and is as popular as ever, with nearly 167 million active buyers in the first quarter of 2017.

With its longevity and popularity, there’s a good chance that you have either bought or sold something on the site at some point. The company isn’t resting on its laurels. Now, it’s making a move that could take customers away from other major retailers.

How eBay users can get better deals

I’m sure that you know eBay as a great online marketplace, where users can buy and sell items from each other. But did you know that there is also a Deals page?

Every day eBay features items from many of its trusted sellers who offer steep discounts, typically between 20 and 90 percent off, along with free shipping. The catch is, these fixed-price items are very limited in quantity and once they are gone, they are gone. When featured items sell out, they are replaced with new deals.

What’s happening now is, the company announced that it is offering a price match guarantee for certain items being sold on its Deals page. That means if you find an eBay deal at a better price somewhere else, eBay will match it.

Items that qualify for price match:

  • Brand new – Only new, unopened items on the eBay Deals page are eligible. Since over 90 percent of eBay Deals are new, that’s a lot of eligible items.
  • Found at competitors – To be eligible, the item should be available on,,,,,,, or
  • Identical and available – Both items (eBay’s and the competitor’s) should be exactly the same and currently in stock.

Here is how to receive the price match:

  • Before you buy an item, contact eBay customer service to request a price match.
  • Let customer service know where you found the lower price. eBay will verify the price match on the spot.
  • Once it’s verified, you’ll get an immediate eBay coupon for the difference.

As you can see it’s a very simple process. If you have found an item on eBay eligible for a price match, click here to contact its customer service.

This feature means you have the best of both worlds. You can still get great deals through eBay’s auctions, or take advantage of price matching to get the best deals online. Perfect.
