What’s on your summer reading list? OpenLibrary.org is the largest online library with millions of books available for free download. It’s part of the Internet Archive, creators of the Wayback Machine, which crawls and indexes billions of web pages.
The nonprofit offers thousands of titles, from classics like Machiavelli’s “The Prince” to Dr. Seuss for kids to thrillers from Clive Cussler. You can even find old textbooks if you’re in the mood to brush up your math, English and geography skills.
What’s more, Open Library is attempting the seemingly impossible feat of cataloging every single book ever written. The website catalogs information on the book, the author and relevant links.
How to get free eBooks
Open Library works on almost every gadget. The eBooks are in PDF and ePub formats. You can read them on a computer, in a Web browser, on mobile gadgets and eReaders. Kindle users can convert ePub files for Kindles using a program like Calibre.
Find a mistake on the entry for your favorite book? You can edit mistakes and add information. You just need to set up an account using your name and email address.

Keep in mind that most eBooks can be borrowed for only 14 days at a time. After that, the borrowed books disappear from your eReader. This keeps you from racking up late fees like a conventional library book, but it means you can’t take a month to read the book.
