If you’re willing to not watch even a split second of the Super Bowl and the big commercials this coming Sunday, you could win a new car – so long keep your eyes on your smartphone.
Volvo is running a Super Bowl tech gimmick, called “The Longest Drive,” that recalls old car giveaway contests.
Remember car promotions when contestants had to keep a hand on a car, last one touching wins? This is a high-tech version of that old game.
Play the Volvo mobile test drive app at S60LongestDrive.com and you could drive a new $40,000 S60 sedan. The catch? You can never look away away from your smartphone because they’re watching.
How the game works
As you watch a prolonged “mobile test drive” video, the app’s facial recognition locks onto your face and detects when your eyes are no longer directed at the screen. Look up to see Budweiser’s Dalmatians? Done. Sneak a peak at Brady’s bomb? Over.
The last three people standing – or staring – will get to drive the new S60 Sedan for two years. Volvo isn’t technically giving the cars away, but loaning them through its Care by Volvo subscription service.
The game begins Sunday at 6 p.m. ET. You aren’t actually disqualified if you look away, but you have to start all over again. The cars will go to the three contestants that keep their eyes on the screen longest, so that means that the contest could go far beyond the run time of the actual Super Bowl game, and into the night.
If you can see yourself playing, The Longest Drive game works on the latest iPhone and Samsung Galaxy phones.
