Kim’s Take: Google shuts down Google Plus

In a hurry? Tap or click to listen to this story in less than a minute!

The great shutdown of Google Plus, the company’s social network, started yesterday. There’s an important lesson here for anyone using social media to market a business and get sales.

Without much fanfare, Google is removing all Google Plus accounts because there wasn’t enough ad revenue to keep the struggling social media platform going. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat won.

If you used Google Plus to market your business, poof! You’re gone.

Break through the noise and market your business on social media

Now, consider Facebook. They used people and businesses to build content so they could sell ads, a lot of them. Now, you have to pay Facebook for customers see your content or products.

If you’re a small business using social media marketing, the lesson is clear. Don’t put your eggs in one basket, well, unless they’re chocolate eggs.
