Kim’s Opinion: Can you depend upon Alexa to call 911?

Smart speakers like the Amazon Echo tell you the weather, turn off the lights and order an Uber. Just don’t depend on them in a real honest-to-goodness emergency.

Smart speakers from Amazon, Google and Apple are among of the most gifted tech products this Christmas and holiday season. They work as advertised.

But these smart speakers are pretty useless getting you help when you need it most, say in an emergency when you need to call 911.

There is one smart speaker exception. The Amazon Echo Connect works with landlines and VOIP, so you could technically use it to call 911.

Remember, anything tech is subject to glitches. When minutes count, I wouldn’t want Alexa to tell me that she’s sorry and she did not understand that command.
