It’s Wednesday, friend. Here’s a brain enhancer to start your day. What surprising feature do Apple AirPods use to help detect if you’re speaking, even in a noisy crowd? A) Lipreading camera built into the case, B) AI-powered bone conduction sensor, C) Microphone that listens for your voice only or D) Built-in accelerometer that senses jaw movement? You’ll find the correct answer at the end. 💬 This is fun! Reply to this email or comment when you rate today’s newsletter with “I love the Current,” and you’ll be entered to win a free Kim Komando Show ballcap (truly priceless, but it’ll cost you $24.95 to buy one). I’ll pick one winner at random. Not saying it’ll fix your life, but stranger things have happened. — Kim 📫 First-time reader? Sign up here. (It’s free!) |

WEB WATERCOOLER📍 T-Mobile messed up big-time: The company sells a GPS tracker so parents can see their young kids’ locations if they don’t have a phone yet. But last week, a software glitch showed users the live locations, names and photos of random children instead (paywall link)! Somewhere, a lawyer just whispered: “delicious.” It’s apparently been fixed, but seriously, that kind of info should never be leaked. 📺 Better Call Saul moment: Russell Kort is basically a real-life Chuck McGill. He claims to have electromagnetic hypersensitivity, which causes headaches, brain fog and blackouts around Wi-Fi. Is it real? Well, it’s not an official medical diagnosis. But it’s kinda strange that there’s barely any research on it. Rumor has it this man would physically explode in a Starbucks. Every fingerprint is unique? Maybe not. Researchers trained an AI to analyze fingerprint shapes, curves and angles. Turns out, prints from different fingers on the same person can actually look super similar. It needs more testing, but think about what this could mean for solving cold cases or even freeing the wrongfully convicted. 🤖 Answer this: Does your work need to hire a human, or can AI handle the job? Shopify’s CEO, Tobi Lütke, just made it clear to his team to think about that before asking for more help. He sees AI as a basic skill and even added AI questions to performance reviews. More companies will do this soon. That’s why I always say to stay tech-ahead. One app to rule them all: Amazon never wants you to leave their app. That’s why they’re testing a “Buy for Me” button that lets you shop other sites within their app. It uses AI to handle checkout securely. Amazon says they won’t take a cut of the purchases, but let’s be real, this undercuts their competition. 💻 Microsoft released a mini PC: It’s small. It’s boxy. It streams Windows 11 from the cloud like it’s Netflix, so you can work from anywhere. But heads-up, it’s not for everyone. The “Link” is made for businesses. Priced at $349.99, you’ll need to go through Microsoft or a reseller to get one. ✅ 50% off alert: My home security pick, SimpliSafe, is having a massive sale. I love their new Active Guard technology that alerts you before a break-in happens. You don’t need to live in fear or worry about burglars when you’re not home. Get all the gear to lock down your home for half off.* 😩 Homeowner’s nightmare: Imagine random cars using your private driveway for years because of a Google Maps error. That’s what happened to Michael. GPS apps marked his property as a public road, and even warning signs didn’t stop people from tearing up his yard. His grass has seen more burnout than corporate America. He told the local news, and they reached out to Google, which finally got it updated. |

DEVICE ADVICE⚡️ 3-second tech genius: Made a mistake in the iPhone Calculator app? Simply swipe left on the numbers to delete the last digit. Still not gonna help you with taxes, but it’s handy. Overwhelmed by to-dos? Use ChatGPT to plan your day. Say something like, “Here’s a list of everything I need to do tomorrow. Schedule your Facebook and Instagram posts on Meta Business Suite. Head to the Home tab and tap Create post. Under Scheduling options, select Schedule to pick a date and time. You’re all set. Work smarter, not post from bed at midnight harder. Check this out: Library Extension shows you what’s at over 5,000 libraries while you browse the web. You can borrow books, music or audiobooks without spending a dime. Best part? You don’t need to sign up. Get it on Chrome, Firefox and Edge. 🤳 Blurry photos? If tapping to focus doesn’t help, it might be time to clean your lens. Seriously, your phone spends all day in your pocket picking up dust and fingerprints that can ruin your pics. The fix? I use Saily eSIM* — it’s the smart, secure way to stay connected anywhere in the world. Just download the app, choose your plan and you’re online in minutes. Here’s a how-to video. No physical SIM needed! |
BY THE NUMBERS50 The number of years since spring started this windy. March 2025 was the second windiest March on record across the contiguous U.S. since 1940. Michigan took gold with its windiest March ever, while nine other states logged their second windiest. Chances are your patio umbrella never stood a chance. $1,000 How much you’re going to pay for a discontinued Trader Joe’s mini tote bag on eBay. The “Honey, I Shrunk the Tote Bag” version of its classic canvas tote was $3 in-store. Today, you’d need a small personal loan and a dream. 2 days Your workweek in 10 years. Bill Gates thinks that’ll happen thanks to AI (paywall link). It may sound lazy, but we’ll be getting even more done. Cities like Tokyo are already testing a four-day workweek to boost birth rates. Next time you feel burned out, just picture those five-day weekends ahead. |
LOGGING OUT …Answer: D) Built-in accelerometer that senses jaw movement. It picks up tiny vibrations from your jawbone when you talk. That helps isolate your voice, even in loud environments. No lipreading camera needed! 🫨 The other day, Barry asked me, “Are you even listening to me?” I thought to myself that was such a strange way to start a conversation.
