Fun! Play Carmen Sandiego in Google Earth

If you're looking for some fun to share with those little ones in the family, look no further than Google Earth. But isn't Google Earth only for locations, maps and finding that great place to eat? Not exactly.

If you were a kid during the '90s like me, then you're probably very familiar with the series Carmen Sandiego. Carmen Sandiego began originally as an educational video game by Broderbund in 1985, but later spawned an entire franchise of games including several live-action game shows and animated television series.

Carmen Sandiego was recently resurrected for a new animated series on Netflix in January starring Gina Rodriguez. The first season is currently available on the streaming service.

That's not all though as Carmen is back and running amok on Google Earth. Your mission, gumshoe, comes from ACME to find clues and apprehend the nefarious thief by globetrotting and exploring different countries and cultures.

What's the game about?

Carmen Sandiego brings us a new saga of the criminal mastermind playing the global game of hide-and-seek. Her latest global crime spree to Google Earth is titled “The Crown Jewels Caper.”

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, the current owner of the franchise, has partnered with Google Earth to reimage the original 1985 title, “Where In the World Is Carmen Sandiego?”

“The Crown Jewels Caper” is supposedly similar to the original game as it sets the stage with Carmen having fully disappeared with her misappropriated loot. You, a member of the ACME detective agency, must head to Google Earth, search for the yellow stick figure icon and follow Carmen's trail.

Having played the original game back in the early '90s, I am loving the reimagined yet old-school look to the entire game's aesthetics. One plus is that it has more details than we had available back then.

“It’s for all those gumshoes who grew up with the chase, and for the next generation feeling that geography itch for the first time,” Google noted in a press release.

How can I play?

To start playing, you'll have to download the Google Earth app for Android, iOS, or access Google Earth on Google Chrome. You'll then want to get your assignment by looking for the special edition Pegman icon. If you already have Google Earth, you can also visit the link http://g.co/carmensandiego to begin.

Get ready for adventure!

As The Chief would say on the 90's game show, "The loot is gone, and the chase is on!"

If you're a fan of getting your chase on with Carmen Sandiego and looking for an adventure, this may be just what you're looking for. Nostalgia aside, this brings the game into a new era for a new generation of kids to explore the globe, discover historical landmarks, countries and diverse cultures.

The game will get your kids using deductive reasoning and strategy skills as they interview witnesses, answer questions about locations they travel to and location history trivia.

You use Google search every day. You use it to get driving directions and recipes. You use it to buy movie tickets, to hear the hours for Sunday mass and so much more. Everyone uses Google search, but only a select few know these insider secrets. Tap or click for the secret games.
