Any number of retailers will keep offering new sales non-stop until Christmas, looking to earn your business throughout this holiday season. And most stay fairly competitive with one another.
But there are also specialty sales added to the mix. Companies like Apple have previously offered education pricing for a wide range of their products, and they've offered in-store discounts to active military personnel and veterans.
Now they're making it a little easier for the latter, and just in time for Christmas. If you're an active member of the military or a veteran, you now have a new way to get some of those brand new Apple products at a discount.
A more accessible shopping experience
Again, active military personnel and veterans could previously get discounted Apple products if they could get to a brick-and-mortar Apple Store. But that's not always an option, depending on a number of circumstances from disability to distance. For instance, you can't exactly head down the street to an Apple Store if you're currently deployed overseas. Now there's an easier way to get that discount: online.
On Monday, Apple opened a new online store specifically geared to current and former members of the military. Through this new store, eligible customers will receive 10% off new Apple products - even high-end tech such as iPhones and Apple Watches. As an example, a brand new base model iPhone XR retails for $749. This discount would cut that price to about $674. Looking for an Apple Watch Series 4? Normal retail for the entry-level models is $399. Factoring in the discount brings it down to about $359.
Freelance tech reporter Steve Aquino says the discount applies to all Apple products. "At Apple we are deeply grateful to the men and women of our armed forces. We’re proud to offer active military and veterans a new dedicated online store with special pricing as an expression of our gratitude for their brave service," Apple told Aquino.
Here's how to activate your discount
Another great benefit, the discount is also open to immediate family members who live in the same household, and is available to shop right now. Just make sure it's only for personal use, and not for any kind of intent for resale.
Another bonus tip: Practical and boring tech gifts people will use time and time again
These are the terms and conditions listed on that storefront: "The Veterans and Military Purchase Program ("Program") is a benefit provided by Apple Inc. (“Apple”) to current and Veteran members of the U.S. Military, National Guard and Reserve. The Program is also offered to their immediate family members who also reside in their same household. The Program is intended for personal use only."
