The countdown is on, we're only a couple days from Amazon Prime Day. The enormous sale is actually a day and a half this year. It begins Monday, July 16 at 3 p.m. Eastern and goes through Tuesday, July 17.
You don't even have to wait to get in on the savings. There is already an early Prime Day deal available that music fans are going to love! Tap or click here to learn all about it.
Once the big day arrives, it's a good idea to have a game plan. Don't worry, we've got you covered. Keep reading and I'll tell you how to find even bigger savings that most people don't know about.
Deals you can expect
It's not surprising that Amazon discounts its own products on Prime Day. In years past, we've seen great deals on the Echo line as well as Fire, Kindle and Fire TV devices.
You will likely see those on sale once again, as well as newcomers like the Echo Spot and Fire TV Cube. So if you have been considering something from the Amazon line, make sure to take a look during Prime Day.
Beyond those deals, you will also find discounted gadgets, clothing, kitchen appliances and much more. But there's another way to save even more money that many are unaware of.
Amazon is running a promo tied to its iOS and Android apps. You can get an extra $5 off select deals just by using the app's camera function. The promo is actually running six different times throughout Prime Day, so you can save a total of $30 if you take advantage of each promo.
The $5 savings will be available during the following time periods:
- July 16, 12:00 p.m. Pacific through 5:59 p.m. Pacific
- July 16, 6:00 p.m. Pacific through 11:59 p.m. Pacific
- July 17, 12:00 a.m. Pacific through 5:59 a.m. Pacific
- July 17, 6:00 a.m. Pacific through 11:59 a.m. Pacific
- July 17, 12:00 p.m. Pacific through 5:59 p.m. Pacific
- July 17, 6:00 p.m. Pacific through 11:59 p.m. Pacific
Here's how to get the savings
There are four different camera features in the Amazon app that will activate the $5 discounts. The good thing is you can use the same feature each time to get the savings. I'll show you the easiest way to get the deal.
Obviously, the first thing you need to do is download the Amazon app on your gadget. Then, open the app and tap the camera icon that is next to the search bar. You will see a prompt asking to allow Amazon to access your gadget's camera. After giving the app permission, you can start unlocking the deals. Here's how:
When your camera opens, you will see a menu with different options to choose from. Tap Product Search.
Then, simply point your gadget's camera at an item near you that you would like to search to purchase on Amazon. (Note: If you are wanting to buy something you don't have near you, look the item up on a nearby computer and point the camera at the item on the screen.)
Once you have the item in the camera's focus, tap Start. You should see a bunch of tiny blue dots circling around the item.
If Amazon can detect what the item is, you will see a list of search results. You'll also see a pop-up notification stating, "You've unlocked $5 off Prime Day Deals."
This is key, you must click on the notification and then tap "Get Coupon" on the next page. This will add the discount to your account for later use. If you close the Get Coupon pop-up, it will disappear and won't be available again. (Note: The item you scan needs to be available to purchase on Amazon to complete the offer.)
