Are you ready? We are now less than a week away from Amazon Prime Day 2018, meaning time is running out to get as prepared as possible for one of the best shopping days of the year.

If you are new to Prime Day, it is an annual event now entering its fourth year where Amazon Prime members get special discounts on all sorts of items and gadgets. It began in 2014 and almost immediately became an insanely popular event.

There is one caveat to Prime Day that was mentioned above. Did you catch it? You must be an Amazon Prime member in order to take part in the sale, and at $119 for a year or $12.99 per month, it can be a bit pricey for some.

Get a deal on Amazon Prime

Fortunately if you are not an Amazon Prime member but still want to get in on all the deals, all is not lost. In fact, you can enjoy Prime Day at a discount by using at least one of a handful of tricks.

What are they?

Sign up for a free trial

Amazon offers people a 30-day trial of Amazon Prime for free. You will have to provide a credit card and billing information, though nothing will be charged until after the trial period ends.

Of course, if you happen to cancel your trial before that date comes you won't pay a thing. Except for the cost of whatever it is you bought during that time frame, which could include Prime Day deals.

Are you a student? Enjoy 6 months free

Undergraduate and graduate students could have access to a 6-month free trial of Prime. In order to qualify, you must have a valid .edu email address and in another bonus, after sixth months you will be able to purchase Prime Student for just $6.49 per month.

Many Prime members under one roof

An option that is especially helpful for families, Amazon Household allows for multiple members of a household to share Prime benefits with no additional cost.

Two adults in a household can enjoy the benefits, while teens and children -- with their parents' permission -- can also get in on the fun, albeit to different degrees.

Other ways to save on Prime

If you happen to be enrolled in certain government assistance programs, it is possible you will be able to get a discount on a Prime membership. For qualifying customers, the membership will cost just $5.99 per month.

Just have an EBT or Medicaid card and you can sign up, and the membership can be canceled at any time.

You could also take advantage of deals that involve getting an Amazon gift card. Some apps, like Ibotta, will help, as will signing up for some credit cards and other promotions.

While that will not give you a deal on Prime, per say, you can use the gift card money on a membership.

Make sure you get the best Amazon Prime day deals
