Have you ever wondered why cutting the cable cord has become so popular in the U.S.? The answer is simple. It's a great way for you to cut down on your monthly bills.
With cable and satellite companies' skyrocketing prices, streaming services have become a less expensive alternative. Paying a couple hundred dollars each month to watch TV just doesn't make sense anymore.
Unfortunately, some of the most popular streaming services have been jacking up prices lately. PlayStation Vue is the latest to announce a price increase.
How much more will PlayStation Vue cost?
It seems that streaming services have started an unfortunate trend of their own. Raising prices. We told you last week that Sling TV is raising its monthly cost for the first time in nearly 4 years.
Then, AT&T has announced it will raise the price of DirecTV Now by $5 per month. Its price increase will go into effect in August.
Previously, its basic package cost $35 per month but will be bumped to $40 next month. The most expensive DirecTV Now package is jumping to $75 per month from $70.
Now, Sony is getting in on the raising prices game. It just announced that all four PlayStation Vue package options will cost $5 more per month starting on July 24, for new subscribers. Current subscribers will see this change reflected on their billing cycle after July 31.
Here is how the new price plans break down:
- Access: $44.99 - This is PlayStation Vue's most basic plan with essential live TV.
- Core: $49.99 - Comes with sports and essential live TV.
- Elite: $59.99 - Movies, sports, and essential live TV.
- Ultra: $79.99 - Premium channels, movies, sports, and essential live TV.
Even worse, this is the second price hike we've seen for PlayStation Vue recently. Last year, prices were raised from $30 to $40 on its most basic plan.
This is not good news for cord cutters. As we said earlier, the main reason to get rid of cable in the first place is to lower monthly bills. If streaming services keep raising prices, it could end the cord cutting trend and return people to subscribing to cable.
