6 new laptops being released in 2018

While smartphones and tablets have taken the world by storm, they have not at all replaced laptops when it comes to portable computing power. Especially helpful for business folks who need to work on the road, their advances have been a bit overshadowed by their smaller counterparts.

That doesn't mean we should not get excited about what's coming, because when you take a closer look you'll see there is some pretty neat stuff on the way. So if you are thinking about moving on from your old laptop and into something new, you're in luck.

Of course, if you are in the market we cannot tell you which one to buy, as that choice is entirely up to you. But read on and you'll see six new models that will arrive this year and who knows? One may be just right.

You have a good variety to look forward to

When you really think about it, the distance we have traveled with portable computers is quite remarkable. The first laptops were pretty sizeable and fairly weak, and today's are the opposite of both.

More than that, many of today's portable devices double as both laptops and tablets.

Apple 13-inch Macbook Air

The MacBook has been one of the most popular laptops of all time, with the Air model taking things to another level. Great for people who are on the go and need something powerful in a light-weight package, it is finally getting a much-deserved and needed update.

The newest model is expected to not only be less expensive, but faster, too. The processor should get a bump from the 1.8 GHz or 2.2 GHz models that are currently available. It is also likely to receive an LCD display, which will give it all a nice look.

Besides the updates, the computer should maintain the qualities that make the MacBook one of the more desired portable computers.

HP Spectre x360 15

A 2-in-1 device, the HP Spectre x360 comes in with a 15.6-inch screen that, while noticeable, barely scratches the surface in terms of what makes this a worthy purchase. The first laptop to have the 8th-generation Core i7-8705G processor, (with its up to 4.1 GHz, 8MB cache and 4 cores), it also boasts a Radeon RX Vega M Graphics card for its 4K UHD touchscreen display.

The touchscreen display is part of what makes this an excellent choice, and at just 4.59 pounds, it is not at all difficult to take with you wherever you go.

Asus ZenBook Pro

Unveiled at Computex, the Asus ZenBook Pro 15 is different in that it has a 5.5-inch touchscreen in the place where you would normally find a touchpad. It is being billed as "the world's first smart touchpad," and with a 1080p display it may very well be.

What does that mean? Well, along with the normal screen, the touchscreen can be used to select apps, as a calculator or display other things such as music and video playback that would otherwise go on the main monitor.

For those who care about a computer's performance, the ZenBook is fine there, too. It offers a choice of a Core i5, i7 and even a six-core 8th-generation Core i9 processor, comes with 16GB or RAM and can come with a GeFOrce GTX 1050 Ti with 4GB of RAM for graphics.

Huawei MateBook X Pro

Competing with the MacBook Air for the portability market, the Huawei MateBook X Pro has a 91-percent screen-to-body ratio, meaning it has a nearly borderless display with a 3000 x 2000 resolution. It is the first of its kind to offer such a screen, one that is designed to be comfortable and safe to look at for extended periods of time.

Along with its nice display, however, the MateBook X Pro has a 10-point touchscreen and is powered by an 8th generation Intel Core processor with a NVIDA GeForce MX150 GPU with 2GB GDDR5. Powerful and lightweight, its battery is rated to provide 12 hours of 1080P video playback, 14 hours of regular work or 15 hours of web browsing.

14-inch Lenovo Yoga 530

The follow up to 2016's Yoga Book, the Yoga 530 -- or Yoga Book 2 -- replaces the unique Halo Keyboard with a second touchscreen display. Serving as both a tablet and a laptop computer, it is compact, light and great for travel.

Set to be available in June, the newest version of the Yoga Book will have improved inking as well as a better AI-enabled keyboard. The keyboard, actually, is one of the most divisive aspects of the device, as it is not your traditional style.

The new one may be more like what we see in an iPad or other tablets, which could alleviate some concerns. Regardless, the very light Yoga Book 2 will be powered by a high-performance Intel CPU.

Surface Book 3

Slated to be released in October, exact details of Microsoft's Surface Book 3 have been tough to find. However, it is predicted to have an Intel Skylake-E Processor as well as a 16MP camera.

It will be able to record in high Full-HD, and feature 4K resolution with 3,840 x 2,160 pixels. The Surface Book 3 will come in both a 16- and 15-inch model, but after that we're not entirely sure what to expect.

Bonus: It's not a laptop and it's not a tablet -- it's both! This 2-in-1 Productivity Laptop & Tablet by Komando™ is pre-loaded with Windows 10 and has the power and performance to keep up with your daily life.
