With all the recent hacks and posting of our personal information on the Dark Web, it is easy for more news about breaches to become nothing other than "white noise." Don't let that happen to you. We cannot be complacent about our personal privacy and security.
The reason why I keep you updated on the latest breaches and hacks is so that you are informed. You have knowledge. With that knowledge, you have power.
Probably like me, you've purchased tickets for concerts and events online. It's incredibly convenient. Plus, I love that now some sites such as Ticketmaster will show you online how you will actually see the concert or event from the seat you are about to purchase.
Personally, I have never used any of the sites that got hacked to buy tickets online.
They are all owned by a major San Francisco-based company, Eventbrite.
The website Ticketfly was defaced by a hacker going by the online handle of “IsHaKdZ.” The hacker left a page along with a brief message stating that said:
“Ticketfly HacKeD By IsHaKdZ. Your Security Down I’m Not Sorry. Next time I will publish database ‘backstage’ (sic).”
Along with the message, the hacker linked to files that contained names, residential addresses, email addresses and contact numbers of Ticketfly’s employees and acquaintances at different venues. There are reports that the message reveals that the hacker gained access to a database titled “backstage.” This database contained details about clients from all the venues, promoters and festivals that use Ticketfly to sell their events' tickets.
But there was more and that's where you come in.
Ticketfly confirmed on its support website that the attacker managed to obtain access to customer and client information. The company has affirmed that the hack affected a bunch of its websites including Brooklyn Bowl, Lafayette Theatre, WorldCafeLive, TaoLasVegas, ClubLosGlobos, and Pearl Street Warehouse.
So if you used any of those sites, cancel your credit card and get a new one.
Yes, it's a pain but it is the safe thing to do. But at least you know because we alerted you to this!
