The Apple Watch is far more than just a watch. Sure, it will help you keep time, but can also handle phone calls and text messages, allow you to check email, monitor your exercise and run apps.

It's almost like a phone on your wrist, and the fact that it looks nice and integrates well with iPhones has helped it become wildly popular. While less used, one of its other benefits is the watch's ability to call for emergency services.

Not only can it call for them, but it can tell first responders exactly where you are so that they can assist you. But while that can absolutely be helpful and even save lives, there is a bit of a downside to the feature.

Accidents happen

Recently, a number of Apple Watch owners have reported that their devices have been calling the police through its Emergency SOS feature. It is set up to quickly dial with the press of a button, and it has been happening inadvertently.

Not surprisingly, that has led to some awkward and embarrassing situations.

It's actually quite easy to do

The issue here is the ease at which people can call up emergency services. On an Apple Watch, if their iPhone is nearby all someone must do is hold down the crown button for a short period of time, after which a countdown will begin.

When the countdown ends, the watch will make the call. This feature is also available on iPhones, but it's not nearly as easy to accidentally activate.

It's also easy to turn off

As is the case for most features, Emergency SOS can be turned off. If you have an Apple Watch and want to do that, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Apple Watch app and click on the "My Watch" tab.
  2. Tap on "General," and then when that opens up, tap on "Emergency SOS."
  3. Select to disable the "Auto Call" bar.

Speaking of Apple, they've got some cool stuff coming out soon

While we do not know for sure what is going to be revealed, there is plenty of speculation on what we can expect in the coming months. Some things are exciting, while others are necessary. Regardless, here are five announcements we are expecting to hear this summer.
