You received your expected delivery date in the mail, and have been checking up to make sure nothing has changed every day since. Whether you ordered a new electronic device, clothes, household goods or whatever, it’s hard not to be anxious about when your Amazon package will arrive.
Finally, the day has come. You got an email saying your package has been delivered, and you can’t wait to get home to it. But when you do, your package is nowhere to be found.
One of the biggest issues facing delivery services like Amazon is packages being stolen. Other than requiring a signature for delivery, which would ruin any kind of convenience, there’s little they can do about it other than issue a refund or send a replacement.
That, of course, costs Amazon money and is something that frustrates everyone. But what if the package wasn’t stolen? How do you know it didn’t just end up at the wrong house?
Amazon's photographic evidence
To help answer that question and cut down on theft, Amazon has slowly been rolling out “Amazon Logistics Photo On Delivery.” The new service, which is not everywhere yet, involves the delivery driver taking a picture of the package once it has been dropped off. The photo, which can be seen when you look to track the package in your orders page, will be their way to show that they did complete the delivery, as well as where to find it.
Doing this makes a lot of sense and would answer a lot of questions, though it cannot prevent a package from being stolen. If it was gone by the time you got home you would know what happened, but that could make things even more painful. To have been so close, yet so far, to having whatever it was that you ordered isn’t a great feeling.
That glass-half-empty perspective aside, it is still a nice feature. Amazon is not providing the service, which you can opt out of if you’d rather not have photos of your doorstep taken, for everyone just yet. Since being launched six months ago, it has only reached a handful of select states.
