Chances are good that you've purchased something from Amazon at some point. That's because it's one of the most popular online retailers around and has been for over two decades.
It isn't just an online retail beast, it's also known as a great company to work for. That's why people all across the country are hoping Amazon builds its second headquarters (HQ2) in their city. Earlier this year, Amazon announced it had narrowed its search to 20 metro areas.
Now, we may have an inside look as to where the HQ2 will actually end up.
Has Amazon already picked its HQ2 location?
Amazon HQ2 will be its second headquarters located in North America. The company said it expects to create as many as 50,000 high-paying jobs and invest more than $5 billion in the city where it's located.
The new location will be a full equal to its original headquarters in Seattle. There were originally 238 locations in the running from across the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
It seems that some heavy web traffic might be giving away where HQ2 will be built. The most likely location is the Northern Virginia area.
Local news ARLnow.com had previously posted an article on the possibility of Amazon's HQ2 being built there. The news outlet recently said that the article has been receiving some unusually high web traffic.
After some investigating, it discovered that much of the traffic was coming from an internal page featured on Amazon.com. This page isn't visible to the public, which means it had to be Amazon employees reading it.
The article received over 6,000 page views. Nearly 3,500 of those views were unique visitors who got to the story through the Amazon.com link. This has led to speculation that Amazon has tipped off its employees that it will be putting its HQ2 in Northern Virginia.
Amazon is expected to make an official decision on which of the 20 potential locations will host HQ2 before the end of 2018. If your city isn't on the list, don't worry, the company is sure to continue its expansion.
