There are so many things I love about this time of year, the Christmas lights, Christmas carols, hot chocolate, home made baked goods, taking time to gather with family and friends, the list goes on and on.
I also love that this time of year seems to bring out the best in people, the giving spirit. Whether it’s volunteering, or dropping money into the red kettle, people are a little more selfless around the holidays.
There have been countless news reports about people paying off layaway balances for those who couldn't afford to, we hear about toy drives, fundraisers and so much Christmas joy.
This year, during my Komando Shopping Network show, we were moved by the generosity of a man named Dave Frank. Dave is from Missouri and he called in during the show to order 10 of the Komando 2-in-1 Productivity Laptop and Tablet.
Of course we’re thinking, who needs 10 laptops? So we asked Dave if they were all gifts. It turns out that Dave volunteers at a small school in Missouri and purchased the laptops for the students there to share among five grade levels! Amazing, right? I mean we all know schools are struggling financially and having a hard time keeping up with technology, so what a great way to make sure his students are not missing out.
As our reliance on technology grows, it’s important for students to have access before they go out into the workforce. Using technology in class gives teachers an opportunity to develop a student’s digital citizenship skills. I mean, having a computer is one thing, but teaching young people how to use it effectively and responsibly is incredibly important.
By donating the devices, Dave is giving these kids an opportunity that is priceless.
