Well, we made it. Black Friday and Cyber Monday have come and gone. Did you find enough deals to cross off everyone from your Christmas gift list?
Most likely, the answer to that question is no. It's nearly impossible to finish that much shopping in such a short period of time. Not to mention Uncle Pete, whom you seem to forget every holiday season until the last minute.
If you're still looking to do some online shopping, Amazon and Walmart are probably your go-to sites.
How does Walmart's online prices stack up next to Amazon's?
Walmart started off as Walton's Five and Dime, a humble store in rural Arkansas. Amazon started as a quaint online bookshop based in Seattle. My, how things have changed!
Today, both retail titans are battling to become the largest stores in the world. But how do they compare when it comes to pricing? You might be surprised at the answer.
A recent study performed by Market Track showed that over the last year, Walmart's online prices have become extremely competitive with Amazon. On average, Walmart's prices are only 0.3 percent higher than those found on Amazon. Last year at this time that difference was a full 3 percent higher.
Walmart is even cheaper in some product categories than Amazon. Items like fitness trackers and smartwatches are 6.4 percent cheaper on Walmart.com than Amazon.com. These items were 12.6 percent higher on Walmart's site last year than Amazon's.
Walmart spokesman Dan Toporek told Reuters, "We are committed to having online prices that meet or beat prices at other top sites."
He went on to say that for some items the retailer now displays two prices online to show shoppers when they can get a lower price by picking up their order in-store. We also recently told you that certain items are less expensive if you purchase them at an in-store Walmart location rather than online.
Amazon responded by saying, "Amazon's prices were as low or lower than any other retailer and we work hard for customers to ensure that's true every day."
The bottom line is this competition is good for everyone. Especially when shopping online, it's super easy to check prices in a matter of moments on each site.
Take the time and you're sure to find the best deals. Are you team Walmart or Amazon? Leave a comment and let us know.
