Samsung 'confirms' new radically different phone you'll want

It's just barely a few weeks since the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 was unveiled and made available to the general public. With its hardware and software improvements, it's easily one of the most impressive smartphones Samsung has ever produced.

But as usual, the tech world constantly marches on and the next big thing is always around the corner.

While we eagerly wait for the release of Apple's iPhone X next month, Samsung already has its eyes on the future. Three reports have confirmed that the Galaxy maker is about to launch its most radical smartphone yet in 2018.

Samsung Galaxy X

Earlier this month, Koh Dong-jin, Samsung’s president of mobile, told Bloomberg that the much-hyped "Folding Phone" is real and will surely launch in 2018.

Codenamed the "Galaxy X," this radical new phone is reported to have already passed Bluetooth certification and is in its other final stages. Even better, we may even see it get released before next year's Galaxy S9 phones hit the market.

This radical new Galaxy smartphone will still have an edge-to-edge OLED display but get this, you can fold it into half its size when you're not using it. Now, that's the revolutionary breakthrough in display technology that we've always been waiting for and we might finally get it next year.

The buzz about foldable phones has been going on for what seems like an eternity now with Samsung itself presenting the concept four years ago at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES). In fact, rumors were circulating that LG and Samsung were set to release their foldable phones toward the end of 2017. But since we are already in the fourth quarter, it's safe to say that we're not going to see the debut of foldable phones this year.

However, if the Galaxy X with its revolutionary folding screen does hit the market soon, it can make the iPhone X, with its bezel-less display and 3D facial scanning technology, look outdated in comparison. The Galaxy X can potentially disrupt the industry again, putting Samsung firmly in front of the smartphone arms race for the near future.
