Have you seen this historical image from the eclipse of 1851? It's amazing!

The first commercially successful photographic process is known as daguerreotype. This was common from the late 1830s through 1860. These unique images are saved on silvered copper plates instead of the typical photographic paper.

Luckily, one of these remarkable images of a solar eclipse from 1851 is still in tact. Check it out:
