Take a sneak peek at Disney's new Star Wars Land

Take a sneak peek at Disney's new Star Wars Land

Even if you have never seen "Star Wars," (yes there are people who still haven't), you probably know the opening line: "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..." The original trilogy is full of memorable moments and scenes.

Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo are all iconic characters that most of us will never forget. Now, longtime fans and newly discovered ones alike will be able to experience the movies like never before.

How Disney is bringing Star Wars to life

Two Star Wars-inspired lands are being built by Disney. One will be at Walt Disney World Resorts in Florida and the other at Disneyland in California.

Both locations will allow guests to experience a Star Wars-themed planet. Characters from the movie and their stories will come to life. Watch the following video to get the first glimpse of what you can expect:

As you can see in the video, Disney recently unveiled a 3D, 50-foot wide model of its design. The area is expected to cover nearly 14 acres when construction concludes and should be open in 2019. Bloomberg estimates that the cost to build the planets is about $1 billion each.

One of the planned attractions allows guests to pilot the Millennium Falcon on a top-secret mission. Another puts you right in the middle of a dramatic battle between the Resistance and the First Order.

Chairman of Disney's parks division, Bob Chapek, said, "This is the most ambitious land we've built to date. As you move through the areas, you might be recruited to join one side or the other. Are you a spy? Are you part of the Resistance or willing to join the First Order? It's up to you. And your role inside of that will be defined by how you choose."
