The odds of you being a Facebook user are pretty high. That's because there is an estimated 2 billion active monthly users worldwide, making it one of the most popular social media sites around.
Many times when we write about Facebook we're warning you about the latest scams. For example, the rash of like-farming scams that have been showing up in News Feeds lately. However, today we're going to tell you about a positive side of the social media giant.
What is the meaning behind the 8-ball?
If you are one of the 2 billion regular Facebook users, there's a good chance that you've seen posts of 8-ball emojis showing up in your News Feed lately. This is actually for a good cause.
What's happening is, images of an 8-ball are being used to raise awareness for prostate cancer. People are posting these pictures and not entering a description whatsoever.
This leads people to wonder what's going on, so they do an online search and discover it's about prostate cancer. This is becoming a very popular trend and I've seen it many times over the past week on my News Feed.
The American Cancer Society (ACS) posted, "Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men (after skin cancer), but it can often be treated successfully. If you have prostate cancer or are close to someone who does, knowing what to expect can help you cope."
There are a number of helpful learning tools on the ACS website. You can learn about prostate cancers' causes, risk factors and prevention and many other useful resources. There is even a link on the site to make a donation to help battle the disease.
