Wow! iPhone 8 rumors are coming in non-stop and so far, they're living up to our expectations.

What we gathered so far is truly exciting - Ferrari red, iPhone X, three different versions, edgeless screen, new form factor, IP68 waterproofing, integrated virtual home button and display embedded fingerprint scanner.

With the rumored removal of the current home button, new biometric systems may assist in this iPhone model's security and app authentications such as Apple Pay. This may include groundbreaking technologies like 3D facial recognition and hand gesture control.

A new report sheds light on what this 3D facial recognition camera might be.

According to MacRumors, reputable Apple leaker and KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the premium iPhone 8 with the edge-to-edge 5.8 OLED display will have a "revolutionary" front-facing camera that has fully-featured 3D sensing capabilities.

This new 3D sensing technology will utilize three modules and will be using motion and depth tracking based on PrimeSense algorithms. Acquired by Apple in 2013, PrimeSense is the company that provided the motion tracking used by  Microsoft's Xbox Kinect.

According to Kuo, this 3D camera system will utilize the existing camera module of current iPhones, an infrared transmitter, and an infrared receiver.

Using these three modules, the camera will then be able to find the position of objects in front of it, adding three-dimensional depth to two-dimensional images captured by the camera.

This could then be used for facial and iris recognition and even facial scanning for augmented and virtual reality applications.

In line with this prediction, JPMorgan analyst Rod Hall has stated earlier that the iPhone 8's facial scanning capabilities will not only supplement augmented reality application but will have practical uses as well. In place of Touch ID, accurate 3D facial recognition may be used for secure transactions like Apple Pay and may lead to wider adoption.

What do you think? Is 3D facial recognition the revolutionary feature you're looking for in the iPhone 8? Drop us a comment!
