With declining sales and a stark slowdown in user adoption, Apple's iPad line will soon need a shot in the arm.
Only 13.1 million iPads were reportedly sold last quarter and that's a significant 19 percent decline from the same quarter 2015.
The only noteworthy update from the last year was the addition of the 9.7-inch iPad Pro in March but the rest of the line has not seen a refresh since September 2015. That's an eternity in tech time!
Well, here's a bit of good news for iPad fans.
iPad Pro refresh
Mac Otakara, a reliable source of Apple news, revealed that four new iPad Pro models are set to be announced in a surprise Apple event in March.
The Japanese site claims that Apple is set to unveil new 7.9-inch, 9.7-inch, and 12.9-inch iPad Pros, as well as an all-new 10.5-inch model.
The new 7.9-inch iPad Pro "Mini" reportedly will have features similar to current 9.7-inch iPad Pro - a True Tone Retina display, four speakers, a Smart Connector (for connecting external peripherals), and a 12-megapixel rear camera with a True Tone LED flash.
Moreover, the all-new 10.5-inch iPad Pro is said to have an edge-to-edge design with a thinner bezel and no Home button. This means that despite the larger screen, it will have the same footprint of the current 9.7-inch iPad Pro.
The report also said that the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro will finally sport the same True Tone display and 12-megapixel True Tone flash its 9.7-inch sibling has.
All of the new iPad Pro models are expected to feature a four-microphone array and will retain the headphone jack.
The same Mac Okatara report also said that a new red color finish for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be unveiled. (Is this the rumored new "Ferrari" color scheme that's also set to grace the iPhone 8?)
Aside from this new color option, a 128GB iPhone SE model is also reportedly set to debut at the same Apple event in March.
