Facebook is one of the most popular social media sites around. It has almost 2 billion monthly active users worldwide. Now that is remarkable!

In an effort to keep its users happy, Facebook makes changes from time-to-time. However, the latest update to its app might be more annoying than innovative.

We're talking about changes being made to videos you see on Facebook's Newsfeed. The company announced these changes this week.

What's changing with Facebook videos?

A Facebook spokesperson said the company is focused on trying to improve the video experience. This is why it made changes to the way users see videos in their Newsfeed.

Video sound will automatically play on Newsfeed

This is the update that could annoy many people. Previously, when you were scrolling through your Newsfeed and came across a video, it would play silently. You needed to tap on a video to hear its sound.

Now, sound from the video will automatically play as long as your gadget's volume is on. Sound will fade in and out as you scroll through videos on the feed. If your phone is on silent, you will not hear sound from videos.

There is good news, though. You can turn this feature off if you don't want to have videos unexpectedly blasting at the wrong moment.

How to turn automatic sound for Newsfeed videos on or off for Android:

  • Open the Facebook App.
  • Select App Settings.
  • Slide the toggle next to Videos in Newsfeed Start With Sound - Slide left for off and right for on.

How to turn automatic sound for Newsfeed videos on or off for iOS:

  • Open the Facebook App.
  • Open Settings.
  • Tap Account Settings.
  • Tap Sounds.
  • Slide the toggle next to Videos in Newsfeed Start With Sound - Slide left for off and right for on.

The update has started rolling out already but you might not have received it yet. In which case you will not see the option of turning on or off sound in videos, but you will once your app is updated.

If the videos' auto-playing bothers you to begin with, with or without sound, you can stop that too. Here are the steps to stop videos from auto-playing at any time:

  • Open Settings.
  • Tap Account Settings.
  • Tap Videos & Photos.
  • Tap Autoplay.
  • Select when videos can autoplay - Choose between 1. On Mobile Data and Wi-Fi Connections. 2. On Wi-Fi Connections Only. 3. Never Autoplay Videos.

On top of changing the way video sound is played, Facebook also made some other changes. Watch this quick video to see what else is new:
