The recent Windows 10 Build 15002 brought along a ton of great features to Microsoft's Windows Insider beta program. We saw Microsoft Edge browser improvements, a smarter Cortana, new Windows Ink features and graphical tweaks, among other exciting things.

All the tweaks being tested in early builds for the Windows Insider program are in preparation for the massive Windows 10 Creators update due early this year. The Creators Update will be the next major overhaul following the big Anniversary Update that dropped last year.

Yesterday, Windows 10 Build 15031 dropped to the Fast Ring, bringing more features that users will surely appreciate.

Picture-in-Picture

Following Android and iOS's footsteps, Microsoft is testing its own Windows picture-in-picture support called "Compact Overlay." This feature will allow you to do a task in a small window, watching a video for example, that overlays on top of all other applications on the screen. This will be handy with Skype calls and other video chat services for sure. Universal Windows app developers will have to enable support for Compact Overlay for their apps, though.

Dynamic Lock

Another useful feature is Dynamic Lock. This lets you pair a Bluetooth smartphone and it will automatically lock your Windows 10 PC when the smartphone is out of range. This will be a useful security feature for users who have the habit of not locking their desktops when stepping away from their desks.

Other fun features

Build 15031 also has other noteworthy features like Windows Game Bar full-screen support for an additional 52 games and a brand new share icon.

Microsoft also revealed that the upcoming Windows 10 Creators Update is finally feature-complete and is pegged for an April release.

How to Join the Windows Insider Program

If you want to take advantage of these early sneak peeks of upcoming Windows 10 builds, you can sign up for Microsoft's Windows Insider Program.

Important: Be forewarned that Insider builds are beta versions of Windows 10 and can be unstable. We don't recommend installing them on your main computer. Also, make sure you have a complete backup of your machine before installing any Insider build.

To join the Windows Insider Program, make sure you already have a Microsoft Account then sign up for the program here.
