Windows 10 was originally released in July 2015. It's fast, safe and offers browser extensions that diehard Windows users wanted for years.
If you remember, Microsoft made a huge push to get people to upgrade from older operating systems in the summer of 2016. Now, the tech giant is making another push, this time in the name of security.
Microsoft is warning everyone who uses Windows 7 that the operating system is no longer secure. Extended support for Windows 7, including security updates, doesn't officially end until January 14, 2020. However, the software giant said that the old operating system isn't capable of keeping up with the most modern gadgets and their increased security requirements.
Why you must upgrade from Windows 7
Microsoft detailed why it's important for users to upgrade from Windows 7 on its German support site. Here's why:
"Windows 7 is based on long-outdated security architectures. Three years before the end of the support, corporate customers in particular should deal with the transition to a modern operating system in good time.
"Companies and users who are on their way to Windows 7 with their sensitive data within three years are faced with enormous dangers. Already today, virtually every company expects cyber attacks."
It also pointed out the fact that many hardware manufacturers no longer provide drivers for Windows 7. This means that modern peripherals, for example, printers, are no longer recognized.
In addition, Windows 10 is the only version of the operating system that provides appropriate support for the latest processor's chips. These include the latest chips from AMD, Intel and Qualcomm. Also, many of the newer programs are written specifically for newer versions of Windows.
Even though extended support for Windows 7 doesn't end for three years, for security sake you should upgrade to Windows 10 now. Read this article to find out about some helpful Windows 10 features that might convince you to make the switch.
