Foldable phones? Samsung and LG rumored to launch them this year

When it comes to smartphones, it seems like people are always in search of the next big thing. There was so much speculation and so many rumors circulating about the iPhone 7. Right after it was released, people immediately began to talk about what they thought the iPhone 8 would be like!

The buzz about foldable phones has been growing steadily. Maybe the hype is partially due to the fact that we're bored with rigid, rectangular phones.

The wait for something brand new may be over soon! The Korean Herald recently reported that Samsung and LG plan to launch foldable phones toward the end of the year.

LG is expected to release 100,000 foldable phones in the fourth quarter. They have been working on the hardware for two or three years. But instead of releasing it under the LG brand, the company may pass it on to another phone manufacturer like Apple or Huawei.

Samsung is expected to release 100,000 foldable phones in the third quarter. But company reps say nothing is definite yet. Samsung took a big hit in 2016 because of all the exploding Galaxy Note 7s so they need to evaluate if they are ready to take such a huge financial risk.

This has been a long time coming and there have been some false starts. Samsung premiered the technology four years ago at the annual Consumer Electronics Show. The last time we talked about Samsung foldable phones was September 2015. Based on what we knew at that point, it was supposed to be called the "Foldable Valley" and available in early 2016.

We're not sure what they're going to look like but this skit shows off what we've been picturing. It's a video that has been circulating for a few years now.

If they're anything like this, will you be as impressed as the woman in the video? Or do you think they will look like something else entirely? Let me know in the comments section below.
