The Kim Komando Show helps dad build a gaming PC

This is just one of the reasons why I love my job! Being able to personally help my callers is a blessing.

When David called my show back in September, he wanted to know about a gaming computer that he and his stepson (also named David) could build themselves. His stepson, who we affectionately called David 2, has Spinal Muscular Atrophy; the disease confines him to a wheelchair. David 1 says the only time he really sees David 2 happy is when he's playing video games.

Rather than just telling him his options, I decided to take it a step further. I purchased all the parts to the gaming computer and then invited both of them to my studio so that Chris, our Director of IT, could show them how to build it.

To express his appreciation, David sent me this heartfelt thank you note. I also received a cute thank you card, which you'll see in the video above.

Dear Miss Kim,
From the bottom of my heart I want to say thank you for supporting the building of my computer. This has been an amazing experience to see how a computer is built and to have one of my own. This computer is so fast why bother using anything else that I have for video games. But now, that school is getting harder and is a lot more work, this computer has been so fast to help me do research and it doesn’t have the constant risk to crash or fail, and that I’m very grateful for. Gaming is now fast and competitive and I don’t have to worry about lag or freeze like other computers, I’m really thankful for that. It was nice to see the station and see how recording for news is done by the professionals.
I just want to say thanks again for supporting this computer and for Chris helping me along with the support of Brian and Joe. Please express my gratitude to everyone.
Please have a safe and joy-filled Christmas season.
God Bless You All,
Thank you, David 1 and David 2 for paying me a visit. I hope you continue to enjoy your new computer.
