Don't you just hate those annoying spam or robocalls? I'm talking about autodialed or prerecorded calls to wireless phone numbers. The calls can come from telemarketers trying to sell you something or even fraudsters trying to rip you off.
One way to cut down on some of these calls is to sign up for the National Do Not Call Registry. However, that doesn't eliminate the problem completely. To make things better, AT&T is introducing a new service that will help.
The new service is AT&T Call Protect. It is designed to automatically block fraud or spam phone calls.
AT&T describes Call Protect as a service that offers more control over nuisance calls. It's free and provides network-based automatic fraud call blocking and suspected spam call warnings, as well as manual temporary call blocking through the optional AT&T Call Protect app.
AT&T Call Protect features
Here are some of the AT&T Call Protect features:
- Free - for eligible customers.
- Network-based automatic fraud call blocking - Detects and blocks calls from likely fraudsters before they reach you. A list of blocked calls can be viewed in the AT&T Call Protect app.
- Suspected spam call warning - You'll receive an on-screen alert when you get an incoming call from a suspected spam source, such as telemarketers, debt collectors, politicians and more. This feature is only available in HD Voice coverage areas.
- Temporary call blocking - This feature is available through the optional app, which you can click here to download. It lets you manually block unwanted calls for 30 days. Use the app to select the callers you want to block and you can renew each number for continued blocking every 30 days.
There have been third-party number blocking apps available for years. What makes AT&T Call Protect stand out is the fact that it builds these warnings at the network level. Giving more extensive information to operators when building the suspected numbers' database.
AT&T Call Protect is available on postpaid Android and iOS smartphones that are eligible for and set up with AT&T HD Voice. You can activate it through the MyAT&T system.
