Facebook Messenger finally rolls out the feature you've been waiting for

Facebook Messenger finally rolls out the feature you've been waiting for
Facebook Newsroom

This new Facebook feature arrived just in time. Even if everyone can't make it home for the holidays, you can use video calling to wish them a "Merry Christmas" face-to-face.

Video calling in Messenger was first made available in April 2015. Ever since then, people have wanted the ability to video call more than one person at a time; Facebook has finally followed up on that suggestion. According to Stephane Taine, the Messenger product manager, Group Video Chat is the most requested Messenger feature ever!

With Facebook Messenger's Group video chat, you will be able to see up to six people at once. This is perfect for calling friends and family members but you can address a larger group as well. You can video call up to 50 people and they will be able to see just the caller. This would be good for work presentations or webinars.

Starting a video chat with a group is really easy. First, you open a chat window with an existing group conversation or you create a group by adding friends' names in a "New Message" window. Then hit the video icon on the top upper right of the screen. Everyone in the group will receive a notification to join the video call.

In order to use this new feature on your phone or tablet, you will need the latest version of the Messenger app. To check for app updates on an Apple device, go into your App Store, select "Updates" in the bottom-right corner, and then hit "Update" next to the Messenger app. To check for app updates on an Android device, open the Google Play Store app and select the menu button in the top-left corner. Then select "My apps & games," and then hit "Update" next to the Messenger app.
