Say goodbye to this popular messaging app

Say goodbye to this popular messaging app

Buying new devices isn't always about keeping up with the Joneses. Sometimes it's necessary if you still want certain applications to run. Developers create apps specifically for the latest operating systems. And the latest operating systems normally work better on newer devices.

WhatsApp, a messaging app that over 1 billion people use, will stop working on several older devices with older operating systems. If you have one of the phones on this list, it may be time to upgrade.

iPhones

By the end of this year, WhatsApp will no longer work with the iPhone 3GS nor on any iPhone still running iOS 6 or older. It will also cease working on iPad models 1, 2, 3 and 4 that haven't been updated.

Android

WhatsApp will stop working on Android gadgets still running Android 2.2 Froyo or earlier.

Windows Phone

WhatsApp will no longer be supported on any Windows 7 phone.

Blackberry/ Nokia

Bad news for people with the Blackberry OS, Blackberry 10, Nokia S40 and Nokia Symbian S60. WhatsApp will end support for these systems in June 2017.

So if you've been on the fence about buying a new phone, now's as good a time as any. The biggest buzz about phones this year was the iPhone 7 launch. Click here to get details on Apple's latest phone. Google also released a smartphone this year; click here to read about the Pixel phone.
