5 minutes is all you need to get a full charge

5 minutes is all you need to get a full charge

With the ever-increasing power requirements of our portable gadgets, making the most out of their battery life is of utmost priority. For most of us, charging our smartphones overnight is a daily ritual we're so used to by now.

Of course, there's nothing worse than running out of juice in the middle of the day!

Fortunately, Qualcomm is unveiling its latest battery technology that can drastically reduce charging times.

Dubbed Quick Charge 4.0, Qualcomm claims that this new tech can charge a smartphone for five hours of juice in just five minutes!

This new rapid battery charging will be built into the next-gen Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processors and it is designed, not only to be 20 percent faster, but also 30 percent more efficient compared to its predecessor, Quick Charge 3.0.

Aside from these improvements, Quick Charge 4.0 is also USB Type-C and USB Power Delivery compliant. This means all Quick Charge 4 adapters are standardized for consistent performance.

It also has a built-in Battery Saver feature that will protect the battery by measuring and regulating voltage, current and temperature. With Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV) version 3, Quick Charge 4 gadgets can determine the best power level to request at all times.

And lastly, Quick Charge 4 supports Dual Charge. This technology adds a second power management circuit and divides the charge current for cooler and faster charging.

Although Quick Charge 4.0 is USB-C compliant, Qualcomm says that it is backward compatible so it will work with older connection standards like micro-USB.

Can't wait to try it out? Qualcomm is expected to release this exciting new battery technology commercially in the first half of 2017.
