There are so many fulfilling reasons to learn a foreign language. It can help you communicate with relatives from the old country or prepare you for interactions with the locals while you travel overseas. No matter the reason, it's certainly an exciting endeavor.
Don't believe the adage "You can't teach an old dog new tricks." I believe it's never too late and I know a great place to help you get started.
Spotify has over 200 hours of language lessons that you can listen to. And it's all completely free! You can learn French, Russian, Arabic and so much more.
To get access to all these free lessons you need to download Spotify to your desktop or laptop and create a free account. If you get the app for your Apple or Android device, then you can listen on the go. Once you open the site or app on your device, select "Browse," then scroll all the way down and select "Word." In this section is where you will find all the available languages that have audio recordings of lessons.
The "Word" section also has speeches from past presidents, poetry, short stories, and classics from famous authors such as William Shakespeare and Emily Bronte. Even though Spotify was created for and is known for streaming music, as you can see there's a lot of other great content.
The very minor downside is the advertisements, but the cost of Premium Spotify is pretty reasonable. It's only $9.99 a month for one user, $14.99 for a family of five, and $4.99 for students. Premium features include no ads, the ability to download playlists and listen offline (no Wi-Fi or data).
