The Samsung Note 7's exploding batteries are such a disaster that nobody wants to go near them. Not airlines, not FedEx, not UPS and not even the U.S. Postal Service.
With more than 2.5 million Note 7 phones out there, the process of returning the dangerous phones is getting more and more complicated. It's also becoming an even bigger headache for the consumers and for Samsung itself.
The U.S. Department of Transportation strictly prohibits companies like FedEx, UPS and now the U.S. Postal Service from shipping any recalled items with lithium batteries via airplane. As for ground transportation, phones MUST be shipped in a fire-proof box, issued by Samsung.
The return kit, which is detailed in the video below, includes three different boxes, and a static shield baggie for your defective phone.
The instructions tell the user to put on the included gloves, put the phone inside the static shield, put it in box one, put box one in box two and put box two in the thermal protection box. The item is then OK to be shipped via ground transportation.
When you return your Note 7 phone, you're eligible for a $100 bill credit when you exchange the phone for another Samsung phone, as a token of the company's appreciation for your loyalty.
This credit is good even if you've already exchanged your phone. If this applies to you, be on the lookout for an additional $75 credit on top of the $25 credit you should have already received.
If you want to be fully refunded and not replace your phone with another Samsung device, you'll still get a $25 bill credit through your carrier. Just visit the retail location where you bought the phone to return it.
