On the heels of the Samsung exploding batteries and fires, images have appeared online showing a similar situation with the iPhone 7. Both smartphones use a lithium ion battery.
The images appeared on Reddit this weekend. But unlike other phones that were charging when they ignited, it appears that this phone exploded in the box. People have commented that it looks like someone took a hammer to it or the phone suffered some type of blow that made the battery explode. Obviously, something happened between the factory and delivery. See the pictures below. This phone definitely exploded!
Reddit commenter kroopthesnoop said it was not his phone. It was his co-worker's iPhone 7 Plus. They informed Apple of the situation and Apple will replace the phone.
