It's amazing what technology allows us to do these days. Did you ever think it would be possible to speak with someone, anywhere in the world, face-to-face by video calling? Apps like Skype and FaceTime make that possible.
"Smart" technology can be found in everyday gadgets we use such as televisions, refrigerators, and even the watches we wear. Smart watches can be very helpful with tracking your health, so much so that a health insurance company is offering the Apple Watch for free!
Aetna recently announced a new initiative intended to revolutionize its members' consumer health experience. They are combining Apple products and its iOS apps with Aetna's analytics-based wellness and care management programs. And it's not just Aetna.
As part of the initiative, Aetna will give its roughly 50,000 employees who participate in the company's wellness reimbursement program a free Apple Watch. The goal is to encourage them to lead healthier, more productive lives.
The initiative also extends beyond Aetna employees.
Aetna will subsidize a significant portion of the cost of an Apple Watch for employers and individual customers during open enrollment season.
An Aetna spokesperson told CNNMoney that there are no health requirements for a customer to qualify for the smartwatch. The Apple Watch ranges from $269 to $1,049, depending on which model you buy.
Other companies are doing the same.
If you want an Apple Watch, ask your health insurance provider or company human resources department about any programs that you may be eligible for. You may be pleasantly surprised at their answer!
