Facebook hoax targets Brad Pitt fans

Facebook hoax targets Brad Pitt fans

It seems like there's a new scam on Facebook at least every other every week. Last week we told you about the "Like" farming scam from fake iPhone 7 Giveaway pages. Before that, there was a scam that used political campaigns as a front to solicit money.

We warned you before that the entertainment news surrounding the divorce between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt would lead to several types of scams. This latest scam is quite morbid.

There are false news stories circulating on Facebook stating that Brad Pitt has decided to end his life because of stress from his divorce and a history of depression.

The post is masquerading as a breaking news article from FOX News. When Facebook users click the post, they are redirected to a fake news site that requests your information so that you can view other "news" stories on the bogus site.

With the information you provide, scammers can hack your Facebook account and install malware that can kill your phone, tablet or computer.

Some Facebook users have recognized that it's a false rumor while others are reposting the link with messages of condolences. If you have already clicked on this hoax story, change your Facebook password immediately! You should also run a system scan to check for the malware; you can even schedule daily scans for proper computer maintenance.
