Your banking information seems to be at risk no matter where you go these days. Hackers are constantly getting more and more sophisticated in the ways they try and steal your money. In the last year alone we've seen major data breaches at retailers, hotels and even hospitals.
Now, a national clothing store has been hit with a massive data breach that has millions of shoppers in danger. I'm going to give you the scary details of the attack and let you know what you need to do to make sure your finances are safe.
Clothing store chain Eddie Bauer is the latest retailer to fall victim of a breach. The store recently removed malware from its point-of-sale systems at all of its North American locations. KrebsOnSecurity first notified the clothing chain of a possible breach weeks ago.
If you shopped at any Eddie Bauer location in the first half of 2016 you could be affected. Your banking information was more than likely stolen if you used a debit or credit card. You need to immediately check your banking statements and look for any suspicious activity.
The malware allowed cybercriminals to steal credit and debit card details on transactions from January 2 through July 17. All purchases made at Eddie Bauer stores during that time could have been compromised. The company says online purchases were not impacted.
