A new brainteaser is taking Facebook by storm and it's one that might never actually be solved. Simply put, it's driving everyone on the Internet crazy.
The math puzzle, which substitutes numbers for fruits, was posted without a definitive answer, but has been shared nearly 180,000 times, has been liked nearly 500,000 times and has amassed more than 2.7 million comments of people thinking they know the answer.
Can you figure it out? Here's the post:
Are you stumped? The logic is on the next page.
Here's what we think:
- Apple + apple +apple = 30, therefore we can assume that one apple =10.
- If an apple + bananas + bananas = 18, we can assume the bananas = 4.
- If bananas equal 4 and bananas minus a coconut equal 2, we assume the coconuts = 2.
So then, by that logic, the coconut+apple+banana should equal 16. But that's not the answer. The math may indeed be correct, but there's a detail you might have missed.
The very last equation is slightly different from those above it. Notice there's only one coconut halve and that there's one less banana in the bunch? We don't have definite values for those images, and we likely never will.
But what we can do is take our best guess. Let's assume that the bananas and the coconut both are one less than its original counterpart, making 1 and 3, respectively. That would make the last equation 1+10+3=14.
