A new flaw has been discovered that's allowing hackers to access your computer through software that comes pre-installed on Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.
So far, the flaw has only been linked to the Lenovo brand. The software that's currently affected is called Lenovo Solution Center (LSC) software, and it comes preloaded on practically every Lenovo computer, whether it's a desktop computer or laptop. The issue also appears to be impacting the ThinkPad tablet, ThinkCentre, ThinkStation, IdeaCentre and select Ideapads.
Hackers can access the program, then elevate privileges on the back end. This allows them to take over the computer and install malicious code on the system.
Lenovo Solution Center is used primarily as a dashboard that monitors various functions on your computer. That includes things like battery life, warranty information, updates and the status of your firewall.
Through this flaw, a hacker could craft an HTML document, like a web page or email message with malicious code, and then convince LSC to click on infected links.
If you have a Lenovo computer, you need to get the fix for this issue right away. Lenovo responded quickly, and has already issued a patch that corrects this problem.
