Looking to make some extra money? Then perhaps you might consider selling some of your old stuff on eBay. But, before you get started, you have to read this article. It holds the secret to never posting an ad on eBay that doesn't work ever again!
These four secret words prove to be the most effective at generating a bidding war on your items and making you big money. It turns out, the language you use can make a big difference. A four-letter word could mean a four-figure difference! Likewise, a typo or misspellings could have devastating effects.
Just ask the researchers from Birmingham City University's School of English. They studied the language for 68,000 items on eBay, around 15 million words and found which ones translate to more money.
According to Andrew Kehoe, researcher says, "We've found that the language used in eBay descriptions really does have an impact on whether items sell and for how much."
So next time you're selling any of these items, use these words to rake in the big bucks!
- Gent. Use in place of "man." It turns out, being polite with "gent" could earn you up to 50% more.
- Authentic. Use in place of "genuine."
- On-ear. Use in place of "in-ear" when referring to headphones.
- Resistance. Use in place of "resistant."
Bonus: The study also found that sellers with big items, like cars, should stay away from using "secondhand," but it's OK to use when selling smaller items like DVDs.
