Just when you thought the whole FBI vs. Apple ordeal was over, it's time for round two. As you may recall, the FBI was using legal pressure to get Apple to help unlock a terrorist's iPhone. Then it dropped the case when it found another way to break into the iPhone.
However, the FBI has said that the method it used only works for the iPhone 5C. It still has other iPhones it needs unlocked, and it's going after Apple again to help in another case.
The case in question is in New York and regards unlocking the phone of a major drug dealer. The suspect has already pleaded guilty, but the FBI wants into his iPhone anyway to go after other drug dealers. The iPhone is running an older version of iOS, and the FBI says the hacks it has used previously won't work.
While a New York judge has already ruled that the FBI doesn't have the grounds to force Apple to comply, the FBI says it will still try. The FBI is also requesting Apple help in a gang case in Boston, so another battle could be approaching there as well.
Now that terrorism isn't a factor, do you think that Apple should help the FBI break into iPhones? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
