As much as a friendly, competent server can improve your dining experience, a bad server can ruin it. Super frustrating, right? Well, Chinese restaurant chain Heweilai learned that the hard way when they brought in robot waiters to replace the human ones.
You may be asking yourself, "Robot waiters?! How does that work?" Turns out, it doesn't. These robot servers were so horrible that they were unable to pour drinks, carry soup or even take orders. They also constantly broke down, though the chain claimed that their maintenance costs were still cheaper than their human counterpart's salaries.
The result of these bad service bots was detrimental to the chain. Two out of the three locations who paid $7,000 for this high-tech waitstaff closed. The third establishment survived only when a human staff was brought in.
There's no denying robot's are shockingly smart. But apparently you need more than artificial intelligence to serve hungry customers food. Good thing robots don't accept tips.
