It's been a while since we've heard anything out of BlackBerry. The one-time dominating cellphone manufacturer hasn't fared well in the smartphone market, and so it's focusing its energies on more behind-the-scenes areas, such as secure messaging.
In fact, a while back BlackBerry released its popular BBM messaging service for Apple and Android. The basic app was good for sending secure messages, but you could get even more privacy features with a $1 monthly subscription. Now, BlackBerry is making most of those privacy features free.
All BBM users can now use Retract, which lets you delete a sent message. Not only does it disappear from your phone, it disappears from the recipient's phone. Similarly, there's the Timer feature that lets you set a limit on messages and photos so they expire and delete after a certain amount of time.
You'll also get Private Chat, which creates a chat window that doesn't have any names or avatars. That way a third party doesn't know who you're talking to. Learn more about BBM.
