We all know that hard drives can fail without warning, and do with depressing regularity. However, some drives tend to fail more often than average.
Sometimes it's due to a bad lot of hard drives that got through quality assurance. However, a group of customers is asserting that an entire line of hard drives from one particular manufacturer is just plain bad.
The manufacturer in question is Seagate and the drives are the Barracuda 3TB Hard Disk Drive and the Backup Plus 3TB External Hard Disk Drive. According to customers who have bought these drives, including one company that uses 49,000 drives of different types, they're much less reliable than competing models.
To make matters worse, the replacement drives Seagate sends are allegedly just as unreliable. So customers have started a class-action lawsuit to recoup the costs of replacement, data loss and data recovery.
If you've had a Seagate 3TB drive fail on you, you can contact Hagens Berman to join the lawsuit. But no matter what hard drive you own, make sure you're backing up regularly because you never know when it could go.
